Saratoga Project Receives Exhibit Donation from U.S. Naval Academy
23 Jan 08: The US Naval Academy has transferred one of its most significant exhibits to the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation for permanent display here in Rhode Island. As of May 1, 2007, the USS Saratoga Museum Foundation, Inc. could identify about $10.5 million in cash, pledges and loans that can be applied to the project.
Our position is that we have met the challenge of raising $10 million; that opinion is buttressed by the fact that Governor Carcieri himself announced our federally-guaranteed $6.5 million loan last October, congratulating us at the time for reaching the target he had established.
We are proceeding with step two: completing the engineering studies to show the project is environmentally permittable. [Click here to read more...]

to the Air, Land & Sea Heritage and Technology Park, a celebration of Rhode Island's naval heritage and technological future. Our proposal is to locate the Park -- featuring the former USS Saratoga (CV-60) as its centerpiece -- at the former Quonset Point Naval Air Station, North Kingstown, RI.
The Saratoga is at this time still the property of the US Navy, and is not yet open to the public. A summary of the Heritage and Technology Park project can be viewed by selecting this link. |

*** Volunteers Needed! ***
The lifeblood of any non-profit organization is its corps of volunteers. A gratifying number of you have already answered the call to help us save the carrier Saratoga and transform her into the centerpiece of a museum, education center and family attraction at Quonset Point.
Many of you have helped out by working a regular shift at our retail location in the Rhode Island mall. Perhaps you have manned a booth at the Quonset Air Show, Wickford Art Fair, Charlestown Seafood Festival or one of the other events at which we show our flag each year. Others have carried our banner in numerous parades, worked on our large carrier model, or helped out in the office.
We salute all of you who have already invested time in our non-profit endeavor.
As we get closer to our ultimate goal, we need new volunteers now more than ever. There is a task to fit every skill level and every level of physical ability. We have work to be done in Providence, Warwick and South County. For those of you who do not live in this area, we need help in outreach efforts to find other Saratoga veterans and help in fundraising.
